Working to make the Park its best...
Parks, especially one as large and diverse as Cape Henlopen State Park, require constant attention and effort. We assess, plan and organize regular events to help keep the Park clean, beautiful and in good condition.
Monthly Trail Days
One of the most important activities we undertake is aimed at keeping the Park’s trails clear and safe. On "Trail Days", Friends and other volunteers engage in regular trail cleaning, clearing maintenance and other projects..
Trail Days are held on the 2nd. Saturday of every month, weather permitting. The September event will be September 15th In order to align with the National Coastal Cleanup Day.(See Below) .
Next regular dates are: October 13th and November 10th.
To participate, just join the group who gather at the Nature Center at 9 am the 2nd. Saturday of each month. Work usually ends around noon.
National Coastal Clean Up Day -
National Trails Day -
National Trails Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday in June. It is part of a Nationwide event designed to broaden participation in such activities. Often outside groups such as scout troops or clubs arrange to participate, and we have additional projects to accommodate the efforts of the volunteers. To participate, simply show up at the Hawkwatch Picnic Pavilion in the Park at 9 am on the first Saturday in June. There, volunteers are split into groups to work on the various projects.
At noon on National Trail Day, the Village Improvement Association
generously provides lunch for everyone at the Picnic Pavilion.
Volunteers also receive a free commemorative Tshirt
Friends’ volunteers help the Park maintain flower beds in several locations. This is an ongoing project primarily in the spring, summer and fall. Volunteers are always needed to support this activity. Park beautification volunteers often do the work on an “as needed” basis at times convenient to their personal schedules. For more information on how to volunteer for this activity please contact us via email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone: 302-858-6127.
