Working to make the Park its best...
Parks, especially one as large and diverse as Cape Henlopen State Park, require constant attention and effort. We assess, plan and organize regular events to help keep the Park clean, beautiful and in good condition.
Monthly Trail Days
One of the most important activities we undertake is aimed at keeping the Park’s trails clear and safe. On "Trail Days", Friends and other volunteers engage in regular trail cleaning and clearing maintenance as well as other projects, as needed.
Trail Days are held on the 2nd. Saturday of every month, weather permitting. Next Days are : March 10th 2018 & April 14th 2018
To participate, just join the group who gather at the Nature Center at 9 am the first Saturday of each month. Work usually ends around noon.
National Trail Day - 1st Saturday in June
National Trail Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday in June. It is part of a Nationwide event designed to broaden participation in such activities. Often outside groups such as scout troops or clubs arrange to participate and we have additional projects to accommodate the efforts of the volunteers. To participate, simply show up at the Picnic Pavilion at 9 am on the first Saturday in June. There, volunteers are split into groups to work on the various projects. At noon on National Trail Day, the Village Improvement Association generously provides lunch for everyone at the Picnic Pavilion. Next Event will be June 2nd. 2018
Friends’ volunteers help the Park maintain flower beds in several locations. This is an ongoing project primarily in the spring, summer and fall. Volunteers are always needed to support this activity. Park beautification volunteers often do the work on an “as needed” basis at times convenient to their personal schedules.
